Professor Weidong Min is a national-level talent who returned to China from abroad. He serves as a National People's Congress Deputy, a Level II Professor in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Nanchang University, and a doctoral and master's supervisor. He is an Executive Director of the China Society of Image and Graphics and a Distinguished Member of the China Computer Federation. Formerly the Dean of the School of Software, he currently holds the positions of Dean of the Institute of Metaverse of Nanchang University, Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality, and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Jiangxi Digital Economy Society. He is recognized as a High-Level Talent in Jiangxi Province and a Leading Talent for both the Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Program and its associated team.
Professor Weidong Min obtained his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from Tsinghua University, under the supervision of Professor Zesheng Tang, a pioneering scholar in computer graphics and a founder of computer graphics and CAD in China, and Academician Jiaguang Sun, the founder of China's Software School. Since 1989, he has been engaged in research on computer vision, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and big data, establishing himself as a renowned scholar and expert in these fields both domestically and internationally. He serves as an expert in dozens of national-level technology expert databases and as an evaluation expert for national scientific research projects and talent programs.
Professor Min conducted scientific research and held management positions at the University of Alberta in Canada and at renowned multinational computer corporations for 18 years. His career has taken him to four great silicon valleys of the world, including Silicon Valley in the Bay Area, USA, and Northern Silicon Valley in Ottawa, Canada.
Professor Min joined Nanchang University in 2015, where he founded the Institute of Metaverse of Nanchang University, the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality, and the National Talent Workstation for Smart Energy Internet. In recent years, he has led over 20 research projects, including 7 national-level projects and 3 projects with funding exceeding 10 million RMB. He has published over 180 academic papers in high-level journals such as IEEE and ACM Transactions. Among his 50 representative SCI papers published in the last five years as the first author or sole corresponding author, the average impact factor is 7.757. He has received 4 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards and holds over 40 authorized invention patents. His research outcomes have been applied in fields such as video intelligence, the metaverse, and smart cities, yielding significant economic benefits. He has supervised over 120 doctoral and master's students, with more than 90 having graduated. The Virtual Reality and Metaverse Innovation Team he leads has achieved multiple internationally advanced theoretical and technological results, some internationally leading, in areas such as novel adaptive deep learning, intelligent perception, and natural interaction.
Professor Min's research group is recruiting outstanding scholars (both professor track and researcher track) and postdoctoral fellows from around the world. He also recruits doctoral and master's students within schools such as the School of Mathematics and Computer Sciences and the School of Information Engineering.
